Renata Stih and Frieder Schnock set up three 'Stadtmarken' (city markers) in Messestadt Riem that combine familiar symbolism with the brashness of advertising. A large heart with electronic text is visible from afar in a green area of Messestadt; a huge hand with coloured boards marks the section containing the trade fair grounds and industrial estate; and a giant mouth stands at the entrance to the residential area. The objects will provide new points of orientation in the fabric of the burgeoning suburb.
