kunstprojekte_riem presents its last projects
Stephen Craig and Department for Public Appearances

Friday, 31 October 2003
7 pm, Willy-Brandt-Allee, behind the information kiosk
8 pm, residents’ meeting area, Galeriahaus, Lehrer-Wirth-Strasse 19
Messestadt Riem, Munich

To conclude her activities at Messestadt Riem, the curator of kunstprojekte_riem, Claudia Büttner, has once again invited well-known artists to carry out projects in the new suburb. The artists have been asked to meet a demands voiced by local residents for ‘something permanent’.

Stephen Craig has created a brightly coloured open pavilion with mobile elements that he calls Wishing Well. The works of this Irish artist, who is Professor of Fine Art in the architecture faculty of Karlsruhe University, inhabit an intermediary world between architecture and sculpture. Set up in a green area on Willy-Brandt-Allee, his pavilion adds to the permanent installations in Messestadt Riem. A number of seats placed around a small garden invite people to relax here, and a box for wish lists encourages them to articulate their desires.

An element of colour will also be introduced to Messestadt Riem during the art event Personal opinions as public statements: Messestadt speaks out, devised by the Department for Public Appearances. This group of Munich-based artists has been carrying out projects in public places since 1995. The Messestadt Riem event focuses on a new way of gauging public opinion by means of coloured banners intended to be hung from every home in the suburb. The banners bear the following messages: ‘I love Messestadt Riem’, ‘It’ll all come right in the end’, ‘Yes, but...’, ‘Here today, gone tomorrow’ and ‘Messestadt Riem – no thanks’. The results of this survey of public opinion will be displayed on the façade of the Galeriahaus in Lehrer-Wirth-Strasse 19.

kunstprojekte_riem cordially invites you to attend the presentation of its last two projects.
