Michael Clegg and Martin Guttmann were born in 1957 in Dublin and Jerusalem respectively. They have worked together ever since their student days and are now based in New York and Cologne. In their photographs and films of people, and in the functional objects they have made in recent years for public sites in European and North American cities, the artists create portraits of society. They encourage local residents to take an active part in their public works.
